I have really been sleeping on this restaurant! I mean it has been on my bookmark for over a year. I even bought a Groupon deal and still didn't go. Finally.. Finally.. I went to their new location, even though it's still in the same shopping center as their old one, I'm sure this spot is bigger.
I was greeted with a smiling waiter who sat us down and got us our water immediately. He explained the menu and gave us time to look over it. Everything sounded good!! They do not have AYCE bbq or the option to cook at the table. Per waiter, due to past issues it was best the staff cook it at the table for the customers.
The owner introduced himself and was very friendly. He explained the quality of the ingredients like not using MSG, making fresh kimchi daily and the quality meat he uses in the dish. And you can definitely taste it too!!
My first visit I got the spicy chicken and teriyaki chicken. Whoaaa.... the spicy is SPICY! But so good I couldn't top eating it but if you are faint at heart this is definitely not for you. The dishes do come with sides that wasn't expected like kimchi, potatoes, pickled zucchini, sautéed watercress.... all yum!
This place is the real deal. Very authentic and have real Korean dishes like Japchae and Bibimpap. I have a Korean friend and this is her staple dish, so I can't wait to try it here! -

I'm so torn about this place. If we'd ordered only the bulgogi rice I'd probably given them a solid 4 stars, but the spicy pork kimbap ultimately spoiled it for me.
First off, this is "Grammy Karaoke" and "Lynnhaven Korean Restaurant" rolled into one building. K-pop blasted as we opened the front door while feeling a tad disoriented because we came for "Lynnhaven Korean Restaurant" but the signage said otherwise. We were seated quickly under/in front of the giant screen with music videos playing.

Bulgogi rice: good rice and bulgogi, and the side cabbage salad was a chunky style with the ketchup-mayo dressing. What let this down was the grilled beans which were impossibly salty. I guess less really is more. 4/5
Steamed egg: you'd typically get this free of charge at any decent Korean BBQ joint, so I had major reservations about paying $6.99 for this. My eyes almost popped out when they brought it out because of the size of the pot. I've had better, but this is certainly a decent version. 4/5
The female staff who helped us with orders was friendly and helpful, and I only wish she'd checked on us while we were eating, rather than right at the end when we almost passed out from pigging out. I loved how she offered tho tell us what each side dish was.
Speaking of side dishes, they were good! I especially liked the watercress and zucchini. Yum!

Spicy pork kimbap: I fully expected the rest of the filling to be veggies, as in spicy pork with veggies. What we got instead, was cabbage salad with so much dressing that the two end bits were soaked with the dressing. Not shockingly, that dressing was so much and so overwhelming that it ultimately ruined the whole dish. 1.5/5
I'd never say never, but it would take some arm twisting to get me to want to come here again. I like the vibe here, and hope they do well. -

Love this place. The food is great and the staff is helpful. Shout out to Johnny for going above and beyond.
The after you stuff your face you can rent a room and rock out with Karaoke in a private room! (You could also order food/snacks to eat while you sing) -

My friends and I checked out this spot early last summer. We enjoyed it mainly because their food is fantastic.
The tough part is that it's small and it's always packed, and during the summer their AC can't handle both the people and the food. Prepare accordingly so that you're not walking out as if you've been in a sauna.
This is one of the few Korean spots locally where you can cook your food at your table. But if you're not into that you can order food normally. But where's the fun in that?
The service is fast, but there may be a language gap. I had to repeat myself a couple of times before our server understood we needed separate checks. That's to be expected so that's not a big deal.
Overall, this is worth a look. Their food is good with decent portion size, their service is good despite some language barriers, and the establishment is clean despite being a little small. Honestly, it felt like being at a tiny eatery in NYC, which is kinda cool.
Regardless, this is a fun spot and worth checking out. For me, I think the only drawback is they're not closer to my home. JV -

I have a close friend who is Korean, and she has been a fantastic guide to Korean cuisine. Thanks to her I've been on the hunt for good Korean food in Hampton Roads.
I started my hunt today at Lynnhaven Korean Restaurant. This place had some positive reviews and now I know why.
I had my sights on two dishes before I even got there. I wanted some tteokbokki (also called ddeokbokki) and I wanted spicy pork. For the spicy pork I went with the option to cook it at the table.
Shortly after ordering my table banchan arrived. Every Korean place does this a little differently. I was pleasantly surprised by their offerings. The kimchi was very good. Crunchy and spicy with a mild fermentation. They had a mixed veggie cake that was delicious, and some pickled radishes that were a great palette cleanser with all the pork and spice. I was also really stoked to get lettuce wraps as well. It lets you bundle all sorts of flavors together however you like. The two banchan surprises were potato salad, and carrots & potatoes in gravy. Two southern classics no doubt, but they seemed to be odd guests at this table. Regardless, they were a delicious compliment to the pork and the spice. The only thing I missed were the spicy pickled cucumbers. I love those. Despite that, every thing played well with my two spicy dishes.
The pork came out first. My very friendly waitress switched on the burner and added the pork along with some onions. The sauce smelled amazing and the onions look like they had been tossed with some soy sauce for flavor. Everything sizzled in the pan. As I watched it cook my tteokbokki arrived. It was just as I had hoped...super saucy and loaded with fish cake, rice sticks, and an egg.
I let the pork sizzle away and immediately started in on the tteokbokki. I loaded a rice stick, piece of fish cake, and some scallions into a leaf of lettuce and stuffed it into my mouth. What a flavor bomb! The cool crunch of lettuce, the chewy bite of the rice cake, and the salty umami of the fish cake was all brought together by the sweet spicy sauce. I love the chili flavor Korean gochujang brings to dishes. This was hitting all my spicy buttons.
Next, I went in on the pork. I loaded another lettuce bomb with pork, onion, and rice. I put piece on kimchi in for good measure. WOW, so good. The pork was tender with a little chew and lots of flavor. Spicy, sweet, porky goodness.
The great thing about getting tteokbokki as an appetizer is that it's a great addition to anything else you're eating. I got pretty creative with what I packed in those lettuce wraps and it was always delicious. I can't wait to come back and do it again.
I was eating solo today, so I had plenty of leftovers. My meal could easily feed two and would be a perfect date night adventure.
